71-year-old man seriously injured after being punched in the Excelsior

An elderly man was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after a younger man allegedly punched him in the Excelsior neighborhood on Wednesday.

The 71-year-old was attacked shortly after noon near the intersection of Geneva Avenue and London Street, according to police.

Police said the victim was injured when he fell to the pavement after the assault.

Police arrested a 25-year-old in the case, however a spokesperson did not immediately release his identity.
