Stanford field hockey earns NCAA berth

The Stanford women's field hockey team beat Lock Haven (Pa.) 1-0 in a play-in game for a spot in the NCAA Tournament on Tuesday.

Freshman Xanthe Travlos scored the lone goal in the 51st minute. The Cardinal (13-7) are advancing to the NCAAs for the first time since 2000.

Stanford was outshot 12-7 in the match.

The Cardinal learned later Tuesday that their reward was a matchup with top-seeded North Carolina. The first-round game is Saturday at 8 a.m. PT in Chapel Hill, N.C.
