Stanford baseball team selected for NCAA tournament

Stanford is the only Bay Area team headed to the NCAA Division I Baseball Championship.

The Cardinal (30-23) earned an at-large bid to the tournament and are headed to the Bloomington (Ind.) Regional with host and No. 4 overall seed Indiana, Indiana State and Youngstown State, the NCAA announced Monday.

Stanford opens the tournament Friday against Indiana State at 11 a.m., prior to Indiana and Youngstown State meeting at 4 p.m.. The double-elimination tournament could run through Monday, if necessary. The regional winner moves on to face the Nashville Regional champion in a best-of-three Super Regional.
