Sports briefs: Yanks offer job to Girardi

The New York Yankees’ manager job is Joe Girardi’s — if he wants it. The Yankees have offered the job to Girardi and are negotiating a contract with his agent, a baseball official said. Girardi beat out Yankees bench coach Don Mattingly, an early favorite, and first base coach Tony Pena, who has the most managerial experience among the three.

Favre, Pack shock Broncos in OT

A day after the Colorado Rockies were swept in the World Series, Denver fans have another reason to feel sick to their stomachs. After the Broncos rushed to get a game-tying field goal as regulation expired, Brett Favre, who’s had his own share of magical Monday night moments, threw an 82-yard touchdown pass to Greg Jenning on the very first play of overtime, giving the Packers a 19-13 road victory.
