Sports briefs: Dodgers pluck Loaiza from A’s

Esteban Loaiza has been an enigma in nearly two seasons with the A’s. After recently returning from the disabled list and pitching for the first time this season, the right-hander is no longer an issue for the A’s. The Los Angeles Dodgers claimed Loaiza — and the more than $8 million remaining on his contract — off waivers. “I didn’t think this was going to happen but it happened,” Loaiza said.
