Sports briefs: Becks’ debut may be delayed

David Beckham, scheduled to make his first appearance for the Los Angeles Galaxy in an exhibition Saturday night against Chelsea, could miss the game with a nagging left ankle injury, he said during halftime of the Major League Soccer All-Star Game. “At the moment it doesn’t look good that I’m going to play because the swelling is still there,” Beckham said.

Not one, but two for Bonds

The Barry Bonds slump came to an astounding end as the Giants’ slugger hit a pair of home runs in a losing effort to the Chicago Cubs 9-8. Bonds took Ted Lilly deep in the second inning and reached the streets with his first shot. The second came against Will Ohman in the seventh inning, a three-run shot. At 753 home runs, Bonds is now just two away from tying Hank Aaron’s all-time record.
