A report from Tomas Hertl's native Czech Republic said the Sharks rookie will not play in the upcoming Sochi Olympics.
Roman Jedlicka, a Czech Republic sports reporter, tweeted that Czech national hockey team coach Alois Hadamczik confirmed Hertl would not be part of the Czech team.
The 20-year-old Hertl, who leads all rookies in the NHL with 15 goals and 25 points, is set to undergo knee surgery in the coming days.
The Sharks announced this week that Hertl would miss more than a month after surgery. Hertl was hurt on Dec. 19 in a knee-to-knee collision with the Los Angeles Kings' Dustin Brown.
