SF Preps Tennis: Lowell splits opening pair

The Lowell High School boys’ tennis team opened its 2019 season with a pair of matches against local competition, starting with a rain-soaked affair against Academic Athletic Conference foe Lincoln on March 6.

The season-opening match-up between the Cardinals and Mustangs saw Lowell win every match but one, with newcomers James Olson and Vishal Krishnaiah (6-0, 6-0) sweeping Lincoln’s No. 2 team, and Arlo Novicoff and Alex Lui (6-1, 6-0) sweeping the Mustangs’ No. 3 pair.

Team captain Nicholas Morgenstein double faulted multiple times en route to dropping his second set, but came out on top, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.

Next up was The Bay School, on March 8, and the Cardinals weren’t quite up to the task. After losing to Athenian and Bentley in their opening contests of the season, the Breakers were able to down Lowell 5-2

One of the only bright spots was a doubles win by juniors Jacob Beltran and Josh Wong. The pair won their doubles match 6-3, 6-3.

Lowell’s next league match comes today against Wallenberg at Golden Gate Park.Prep Sports
