Report: 49ers find a quarterback to add to roster

The 49ers will have a quarterback on their roster come Thursday. It’ll be Brian Hoyer, according to reports.

He’ll come in on a multi-year deal, meaning a trade for Kirk Cousins most likely isn’t in the works, according to NFL.com.

Hoyer and 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan worked together in Cleveland in 2014, when Hoyer threw for 3326 yards and had his best season for yards per completion. Shanahan ultimately left the organization when he felt pressure from his higher ups to play Johnny Manziel.

Adding Hoyer represents a solid stopgap solution while the team incubates a young franchise quarterback.
