Oakland Athletics recall Frankie Montas

The Oakland Athletics recalled Frankie Montas fromTriple-A Nashville officially on Tuesday, bringing the right-hander back for a second time this year in time to start Tuesday’s game against the Texas Rangers.

In a companion move, the A’s optioned infielder Franklin Barreto — who was 1-for-4 in two games in his fourth stint with the A’s this year — back to Nashville. Barreto is batting .214 with three home runs and 10 RBI in 20 games overall with the A’s.

Montas, who was sent down before the major league All-Star break to get some work while the rest of his teammates got a vacation, went 5-2 with a 3.35 ERA in eight starts during his first stint with the club May 27 to July 9.

The 25-year-old made one start with the Sounds following his July 10 option, throwing five scoreless innings for the win a week ago today against Omaha.  Montas has allowed just two home runs in 48.1 innings with Oakland.
