The Oakland Athletics announced on Monday that they will no longer offer traditional season tickets for 2019. The program will be replaced by something not yet tried before in Major League Baseball: A membership program, called A’s Access.
In a release, the Athletics said that A’s Access provides all members with general admission access to every 2019 regular season home game, a reserved seat plan, and benefits exclusive to members, such as concessions discounts.
“To better meet the evolving needs of our fans, we are changing our approach to membership,” Oakland COO Chris Giles said in a statement. “This flexible model is designed to serve both fans who want a more traditional reserved seat plan and those who desire a more flexible and social experience,” said A’s COO Chris Giles.
The A’s have already gotten experimental with flexible attendance options for fans this season, with the introduction of the Treehouse, behind the left field bleachers. The 10,000-square foot area — with a redwood patio deck, bar and lounge seating and two full-service bars — doesn’t have assigned seats, and was introduced with a $120 annual payment, good for tickets for the entire season. Now, a fan can buy a $29.99 monthly subscription, which gets them into any game, so if the A’s play 15 home games in a month, and a fan goes to all of them, admission works out to about $2 per game.
A’s Access members will get 50 percent off of concessions, 25 percent off of merchandise, as well as parking benefits, and an allotment of seat upgrade credits (for games not included in their reserved ticket plan).
The memberships, which go on sale this Friday, Aug. 3, will also include a flexible payment plan — a 12-month option that auto renews each year. Fans who purchase A’s Access for 2019 before this season is over will have the first opportunity to purchase 2018 postseason tickets, including a “Pay As We Play” option.
“A’s Access is the first program of its kind,” Giles said in his statement. “From access to every game to special member concessions pricing, we’re focused on maximizing the value proposition for members. We are inviting our fans to truly become members of the A’s.”
The A’s release went on to say: Every A’s Access membership includes a reserved ticket plan and all seat plans held by current season ticket members are available for renewal within the Access program. A’s Access plans begin at $240. Member concession pricing includes $4 20-ounce domestic drafts, $3 hot dogs, and $2.50 16-ounce sodas.

Every member, whether you have a 10-game seat plan or a full-season seat plan has 81-game Access, which means general admission entry to every game.
Every member gets a set of seat upgrades. If a fan decides to come to the game last-minute, they can either hang in the Treehouse or use one of their upgrades to grab a seat.
Plans will range from 10 to 81 games.
Full-season plan holders can give away tickets and still attend. They can share benefits with partners. A full-season hang-tag will be included in Gold and Platinum membership levels.
If you share your plan, you can register you share partner(s) and they will get the concessions and merchandise discounts as well. If you purchase the Gold or Platinum plan, the A’s will send you multiple copies of your season-long parking pass.
