Freshman Sihwan Kim took third in his first collegiate tournament to spark the top-ranked Stanford men's golf team to a third-place finish in the Topy Cup on Thursday. Kim fired rounds of 67-70-67 to finish with a 9-under 207 total, five shots behind the winner, Alabama's Joseph Sykora.
The defending NCAA champion Cardinal posted its worst round in the three-day tournament at 289 to finish at 17-under 847, five shots behind champion Tokoku Fukushi University. Stanford carded rounds of 282 and 276 during the first two days.
Stanford senior Rob Grube also finished in the top 10, placing ninth at 211 (67-72-72).
