Battle heats up at second base

The Detroit Tigers and New York Yankees, playoff combatants last season, are squaring off again for a spot in the Midsummer Classic.

Robinson Cano of the Yankees saw his lead for the second base starting job in the July 10 All-Star Game at AT&T Park shrivel to 8,214 votes over the Tigers’ Placido Polanco.

Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez is a virtual lock to start and became the first playerfrom either league to crack 1 million votes.
