If Andrew Bogut had his way, then Matthew Dellavedova would be diving into ankles for the Warriors and not against them in the NBA Finals.
Bogut lobbied for general manager Bob Myers to consider Dellavedova after the guard was bypassed in the 2013 draft. The Cleveland Cavaliers invited the St. Mary's product to play for their summer league team.
“I was trying to get [Dellavedova)] here actually, but we didn't have a roster spot at the time,” Bogut said of his fellow Australian.
The Warriors acquired Serbian guard Nemanja Nedovic from the Phoenix Suns as a possible back-up point guard of the future. He was released one year later.
“We had Nedovic and he was in the point guard spot for us,” Bogut said. “I tried to tell Bob to get (Dellavedova) here.”
Dellavedova and Bogut plan to play for the Australia national team in an Olympics qualifying series this summer.
Meanwhile, Balls advises Stephen Curry to wear shin guards whenever Dellavedova is on the court in the NBA Finals.
DEAL WITH IT: The Warriors won't have only the Cavaliers' starting five to contend with in the next few days. The Mission Alliance hired five attorneys to contest the environmental impact report on their arena project. Parking, traffic and noise are at the top of their hit list, we're told.
Then again, land deals and lawsuits go together like Curry and Klay Thompson around here.
Curry and his family were afforded superstar treatment at AT&T Park on Saturday night, yet another sign of the budding Warriors-Giants partnership. Mayor Ed Lee and his team want the new place to happen as well.
In other words, Balls likes the Warriors a lot more against their arena opponents than versus the LeBron James and Cavaliers.
TAKE THAT, CITY!: One day after Curry saw his first Giants home game in person, Thompson attended the Athletics game at LO.co Coliseum, where he was escorted to his seat by security personnel, sat alone in the fourth row and ate nachos.
REST WINS AGAIN?: We know the seven days between the conference finals and the NBA Finals are two more than the previous league mark. But the seven-, three- and seven-day layoffs between rounds for the Warriors has to be some kind of record as well.
The Cavaliers will have not played in eight days after their sweep of the Atlanta Hawks last Tuesday night. That's one day short of the record set by the San Antonio Spurs two years ago, when they went on to lose to James and the Miami Heat in the Finals.
CONNECT THE DOTS: Oakland native and ex-Denver Nuggets coach Brian Shaw attended Warriors practice on Saturday, only hours before the New Orleans Pelicans confirmed their hiring of associate coach Alvin Gentry for next season.
WASH AND HANG: Since coach Ron Washington returned to the team, the Athletics won six times and committed seven errors in 10 games. The numbers aren't exactly '74 A's stuff, but they're a heckuva lot better than before he arrived two weeks ago. So ramp up the speculation that Washington will replace manager Bob Melvin if the team bottoms out this season
Well, Balls says Melvin deserves better. Trades and injuries have left him with fewer options than a year ago. Plus, Billy Beane wouldn't fire a hand-picked guy with one year left on his contract, would he?
Beane once fired Bob Geren, the best man at his wedding, so oh yes he would.
JUST SAYIN': At the start of the day, the A's ranked 24th in slugging percentage and 26th in home runs in the clean-up spot.
JUST ASKIN': How much better would the A's be with Josh Donaldson and his 15 homers and .604 slugging percentage in the middle of the lineup?
THE LIST: The NBA Finals will feature Curry and James in a battle of Akron natives. The rest of the All-Akron All-Pro team:
Art Becker, Houston Mavericks
Jimmy Darrow, St. Louis Hawks
Gus Johnson, Baltimore Bullets
Steve Johnson, Portland Trail Blazers
Jerome Lane, Denver Nuggets
Chris Owens, Milwaukee Bucks
Chuck Share, St. Louis Hawks
Claude Virden, Denver Nuggets
Nate Thurmond, Warriors
