A’s attempt to stretch Simon Castro, it doesn’t work vs. Orioles

Before Wednesday, Oakland Athletics relief pitcher Simon Castro threw more than two innings in an outing twice in his career that began in 2013. Once this season, he threw 2.1 frames.

He wasn’t able to get that far in the series finale against the Baltimore Orioles. In the bottom of the 12th, Castro took the mound to face Manny Machado. It only took three pitches for the All-Star third baseman to end the game by launching a homer to left-center field.

The A’s lost, 8-7.

The walkoff shot spoiled an impressive ninth-inning comeback by the Athletics, who scored a pair of runs off O’s closer Zach Britton, forcing him to blow his first save since Oct. 1, 2015.

The A’s will return home for a three-game set against the Texas Rangers, beginning Friday.Baltimore OriolesBob Melvindaniel gossettdylan bundymanny machadomatt olsonMLBOakland Athleticssimon castro
