Approaching 300 games, Kerr jokes that he didn’t know what he was doing when he joined Warriors

OAKLAND  Before Steve Kerr coached his 300th NBA game against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Tuesday night, the Golden State Warriors’ boss was asked what he’s learned during his time on the bench.

Unsurprisingly, the head coach flashed his sharp sense of humor and offered credit to those who surround him.

“I came in with a lot of ideas but I wasn’t sure if I really knew what I was doing,” Kerr said. “I pretended like I did. But I think the key for any coach is to have talent in the beginning.”

Kerr’s record with the Warriors stands at a staggering 248-51. As PR chief Raymond Ridder was quick to quip at the close of the press conference, former interim head coach Luke Walton was in charge for 42 of those games.

“When you have a lot of talent from the beginning of your coaching career, you can implement things that will work and you can get credibility with winning and grow as a coach while you’re winning,” Kerr said. “And it’s just a much easier process.”

“So, I was very fortunate to have this job as my first one.”
