Academy of Art basketball teams win first games of 2017

Academy of Art University’s women’s basketball team had no problem returning to their winning ways out of the holiday break. The Urban Knights beat Sonoma State by two points before handling Dixie State, 75-50, in their first games of the new year — extending their current winning streak to eight.

Junior guard Rodericka Ware was named PacWest Conference Defender of the week for averaging five steals a game over that span. She had eight against Dixie State alone.

The Art U men’s team won a back-and-forth affair last week against Dominican, 79-71.

Junior guard Victor Nwaba had a career-high 22 points.

Meanwhile, teammate Uchenna Okeneme earned PacWest Defender of the Week honors for averaging 3 steals during the Urban Knights’ first two games of the season. academy of art athleticsAcademy of Art Universityart uart u sportsCollege Sports
