49ers sign fourth-round pick WR Ellington

The 49ers signed fourth-round draft pick Bruce Ellington to a four-year contract on Tuesday.

Ellington, a speedy wide receiver out of South Carolina, had 775 yards and eight receiving touchdowns for the Gamecocks last season. He also played in 80 career games with the South Carolina basketball team, averaging 11.3 points per game.

Ellington, who will likely get a shot returning kicks, joins a crowded receiving crops that also includes Michael Crabtree, Anquan Boldin, Stevie Johnson, Brandon Lloyd, Jon Baldwin and Quinton Patton.

With Ellington signed, the 49ers have signed 11 of their 12 draft picks. The lone unsigned pick is third-rounder Marcus Martin, a center out of Southern Cal.

Niners sign two locals: The 49ers signed a pair of players with Bay Area ties in former Stanford linebacker Chase Thomas and tight end Kevin Greene, who played at Sacred Heart Cathedral. Greene went undrafted earlier this month after playing in nine games for USC. As a result of the signings, the Niners waived offensive tackle Luke Marquardt and linebacker Morgan Breslin.

Boone wants new deal: Niners offensive lineman Alex Boone skipped Tuesday's OTA session and has missed other parts of the team's voluntary offseason workout program because he is seeking a new contract, ESPN reported. The former undrafted free agent has started every game the past two years at guard for the 49ers. Boone signed an extension late in 2011 that has two years remaining on it at roughly $2 million a year, according to the report.
