Tent encampments cleared out in Mission District
San Francisco Public Works crews and San Francisco Police Department officers began clearing streets of tents and their residents throughout the Mission District early Wednesday morning after Mayor Mark Farrell called for the clean-up action in a press conference Monday, when he proclaimed that Proposition Q, the tent-ban law he authored and voters approved in 2016, would be implemented in “a more aggressive way.”

Johnnie, one of many people pushed out of tent encampments in the Mission District Wednesday, told The Examiner he was once a construction worker but has lived on the streets for the past 14 years. He said city workers had offered a shelter bed, but only for seven nights, and the number of belongings he could bring with him was limited. (Joe Fitzgerald Rodriguez/S.F. Examiner)
