Faith leaders, city officials wash feet of immigrants at SF City Hall

On Thursday, March 24, Supervisor John Avalos joined faith leaders in a foot-washing ceremony on the steps of San Francisco’s City Hall to honor immigrants as Easter quickly approaches.

The ritual of Foot-washing is an ancient tradition stemming from the Christian religion and passage in the Bible where Jesus washed the feet of his disciples. The ritual is meant to symbolizes respect, humility, servanthood and show respect and dignity to immigrants and those who have received past convictions and have since turned their lives around.
