Christmas trees pulverized in annual Chipping of the Trees

The smell of fresh-cut pine was in the air during the 32nd annual “Chipping of the Trees” event at Civic Center Park on Thursday, Dec. 27, 2018. The event, put on by the San Francisco Department of Environment, SF Public Works and Recology San Francisco, serves as a reminder for residents to put out Christmas trees for Recology to pick up between Jan. 2 and Jan. 11, 2019 for recycling into chippings and mulch that Public Works can use in landscaping throughout The City. Deborah Raphael, Director of SF Department of Environment, said trees should be left out without any decorations or tree stands attached.
