Utah mayor used alias to write upbeat news stories

Mike Winder, the mayor of Utah’s second-largest city, was caught using a phony pen name to publish upbeat freelance articles boosting West Valley City in local news outlets. Winder also needed to apologize to a California man whose photo and last name he stole for his alias. The mayor said he began his journalistic ruse because the media put too much emphasis on negative stories about crime in his town.
