The daily outrage: Armed robbery spree hits Peninsula

WHO: Unknown suspects

WHAT: The Bay Area is experiencing a rash of takeover-style armed robberies by masked thieves, some of which have resulted in employees being pistol-whipped. Oakland has suffered a number of the high-profile attacks, and police have recently reported similar robberies in Vallejo and Daly City (at the Serramonte Denny’s, left).

WHY THEY ARE DOING IT: Restaurants and other businesses are tempting targets. Police have said at least some of the robberies may be copycats imitating the brazen Oakland heists.

WHY IT’S A BAD IDEA: The potential for a fatal mishap is high, and customers could be spooked into staying home if they fear for their safety.

WHERE TO VENT: Anyone with information on the Daly City robbery is asked to call Detective Frank Mangan at (650) 991-8147.OpinionOther Opinion
