Man scams Los Angeles-area immigrants by posing as Army recruiter

Yupeng Deng is being held on $500,000 bail since being charged with posing as a U.S. Army recruiter and scamming Los Angeles-area Chinese immigrants into paying him as much as $400 each to join a bogus military unit. Deng allegedly told his “recruits” that joining the Army would improve their chances of obtaining green cards and U.S. citizenship. His office was decorated to look like a real recruiting station and he reportedly issued phony military ID cards to his victims.
