WHAT: Troops loyal to Ivory Coast President Laurent Gbagbo — who has refused to leave office despite losing the Nov. 28 election — opened fire on an opposition neighborhood for the second time in two days, only hours after supporters of Alassane Ouattara took to the streets in protest.
HOW BAD: At least four civilians were killed. Their bodies were left in the sand, arms splayed behind them. The United Nations has said that more than 210 people have been killed since the disputed election, mostly Ouattara supporters.
WHY: State TV controlled by Gbagbo has accused the rebels of infiltrating pro-Ouattara neighborhoods and stashing arms in order to launch ambushes against the loyalist army.
