WHO: California Assembly Democrats
WHAT: As they approach the end of the legislative session with no budget in sight, California’s Assembly Democrats have announced that they will be taking a three-day vacation this week.
WHY THEY ARE DOING IT: The timing coincides with the Democratic National Convention in Denver. A representative for Assembly Speaker Karen Bass said the problem is that there’s nothing for the rank and file to do — they’ve voted on everything, and no new bills have arrived.
WHY IT’S A BAD IDEA: Quite frankly, it looks bad. At least some members of the state Senate, recognizing the bad public impression being created, have canceled their own plans to attend the convention.
WHERE TO VENT: Contact your state legislators.
