Chechen officials ordered to shoot women with paintball guns for not wearing headscarves

Chechnya strongman Ramzan Kadyrov ordered security forces to shoot paintball guns at women who were not wearing headscarves. A Human Rights Watch report this week condemned Kadyrov’s imposition of a strict Islamic dress code as a flagrant violation of women’s rights. The watchdog group interviewed dozens of Chechen women who experienced or witnessed attacks and harassment for not complying with the dress restrictions.
