Young woman who died suspiciously Sunday identified

A 23-year-old woman who died suspiciously near San Francisco General Hospital early Sunday has been identified by the Medical Examiner as Melanie Olivieri.

Olivieri, a San Francisco resident, was found unconscious inside a residential hotel near 24th and Utah streets by a friend who called police at 6:49 a.m., Officer Grace Gatpandan said.

Medical personnel responded and performed CPR on Olivieri, who died at the scene.

It’s unclear why police are calling Olivieri’s death suspicious, but Gatpandan said the decision is based on evidence found around her body.

Homicide is investigating the case and sealed off the area.
