A young woman suffered a traumatic brain injury when she was struck across the forehead Thursday night during a robbery in West Portal, police said.
The 29-year-old woman was walking on 15th Avenue near Ulloa Street around 8:28 p.m. when an unknown man told her to hand over her cellphone and purse, police said. The man then hit her on the head with a metal object, took her belongings and left the scene on foot.
The woman is expected to survive.
No detailed description of the man has been released.
