Woman shot while sitting in car in Bayview

Gunfire struck a 25-year-old woman in the leg as she sat in her car in the Bayview on Tuesday afternoon, according to police.

The woman was on the 1500 block of Jennings Street, down the hill from George Washington Carver Elementary School and Adam Rogers Park, when a person opened fire at around 4:22 p.m., police said.

The woman is expected to survive.

Police have not identified the suspect or a vehicle involved in the shooting.

Police initially said the woman was shot in the leg and ankle and that a person had been detained in relation to the shooting. But no arrest has been made.
