A woman fatally stabbed in Potrero Hill late Friday morning was a former attorney for the San Francisco Public Defender’s Office, city officials have confirmed.
Marla Zamora, 67, who worked in the office for nearly 30 years, was found in the 400 block of Arkansas Street just before 11 a.m. suffering from stab wounds, police said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers detained one person in connection with the killing, police said.
Public Defender Jeff Adachi said Zamora had “a heart of gold” and was a “fearless advocate” for her clients. Among the notable clients she defended was Edwin Ramos, who was convicted in 2012 of murdering a father and two of his sons in an afternoon shooting in the Excelsior District in 2008.
“She was also a mentor to so many young lawyers,” Adachi said. “Our entire office is in shock and we miss Marla dearly. Our hearts go out to her daughter and family.”
