UPDATE: 70-year-old Pescadero man killed in early morning crash

A 70-year-old man was killed when his car went off the road and struck a tree in unincorporated San Mateo County near Pescadero this morning, a California Highway Patrol officer said.

The CHP responded to reports of a solo-vehicle crash off of Pescadero Road near Butano Road at about 1:15 a.m., CHP Officer Art Montiel said.

The driver, a Pescadero man, was killed in the crash.

Investigators said it appeared the man failed to negotiate a turn in the road and collided with a tree near the right shoulder.

The victim was not wearing a seatbelt.

It had not been determined if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.
