Transient killed in Golden Gate Park identified

A 53-year-old homeless man who was found beaten to death 100 feet away from the Park Police Station at Kezar Stadium on Saturday morning has been identified as Michael Ponder.

Ponder was found up against a fence around 7:30 a.m. Saturday at the back end of the stadium, in an area that is not prone to a lot of foot traffic but is a popular spot for illegal campers.

Police did not disclose whether a weapon was used.

No one had been arrested as of Sunday afternoon.
