Traffic collision in Bayview turns into robbery

A traffic collision in the Bayview turned into a ruckus Tuesday afternoon, when a passenger in one of the cars and his friends robbed the other driver.

The two vehicles collided on Evans Avenue and Phelps Street around 1:30 p.m., with the robbery victim driving one car and the suspect’s girlfriend driving the other, police said.

As the boyfriend walked up to the victim, a 23-year-old man, he saw his two friends pull up in a golden Audi. The friends then helped the boyfriend rob the victim.

The boyfriend pinned the driver against his car as one of the friends took a backpack from the car, police said. The friends hopped back in their Audi and the boyfriend handed them the driver’s wallet.

The friends then drove westbound on Evans Avenue. In all, they stole cash and two smartphones.

In an odd turn of events, the 24-year-old boyfriend stayed at the scene until police arrived and was arrested.

His identity or the charges he was arrested on suspicion of have not been released.
