Tractor-trailer crashes into Pacifica home

A tractor-trailer veered off a steep residential street in Pacifica Wednesday afternoon, crashing into trees, vehicles and ultimately a home,
police and witnesses said.

Pacifica police said the crash happened at about 1:30 p.m. near the intersection of Manor Drive and Cragmont Court. The driver of the truck, which was delivering a load of asphalt as part of a street-paving project, apparently failed to negotiate a curve and crashed into a home at 340 Manor Drive, police said.

The driver and residents of the home all escaped injury.

Pete Howes, who lives next door to the Manor Drive home, said he was he was working in his side yard when the crash occurred.

“I was working in the side yard and heard what sounded like a freight train coming through, breaking trees,'' Howes, who lives at 2
Cragmont Court, said in describing the incident.

Howes, a paramedic for the San Francisco Fire Department, said, “I went over to check out the driver and make sure the neighbors were OK, and everyone was.''

Pete Howes' wife Robin Howes said the truck crashed into several heritage trees and took out her side fence before crashing into her
neighbors' house.

That home sustained serious damage as the truck crashed into its front bedroom and damaged two cars in their driveway, she said.

Robin Howes said a drunken driver crashed into her home in February, causing thousands of dollars of damage to the property, and last
month a dump truck lost its brakes coming down Manor Drive and crashed into a pole.

“We're just happy we got through another one of these, but my goodness,'' Robin Howes said.

Pete Howes said, “Manor is a street with a very steep grade and is potentially dangerous in some conditions.''

The official cause of the crash remains under investigation, Pacifica police said.
