City staff will shower downtown shoppers and passersby with gifts Wednesday to promote a new program that will help San Franciscans fill up their water bottles when they are not at home.
New tap water partnerships will be announced as part of The City’s efforts to promote the consumption of tap water, which flows to San Francisco from Hetch Hetchy Dam in Yosemite National Park.
The initiative is part of a city effort to discourage the use of bottled water, which is expensive for consumers and creates waste and pollution.
San Francisco Public Utilities General Manager Ed Harrington and San Francisco Environment Director Jared Blumenfeld will attend the announcement at Yerba Beuna Gardens, on Third Street between Mission and Howard streets, at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, the SFPUC announced.
After the announcement, officials will hand out free reusable water bottles, t-shirts and other items that promote tap water, according to an SFPUC press release.
