Surfer reported missing off Ocean Beach

A surfer is missing off Ocean Beach Sunday night after reportedly failing to return to shore.

The U.S. Coast Guard began searching for the surfer around 6 p.m., Coast Guard officials said. The search was soon called off after the man was found safe.

Coast Guard officials said the surfer was reported missing by a friend waiting for their return on the beach.
