Strengthened nuisance law approved

The Department of Public Health just got more powerful. The department can now fine landlords $1,000 a day if they fail to clean up nuisances, like bed bugs, mold, accumulating litter, and the like.

Legislation granted the department the new powers was introduced by Supervisor John Avalos and approved Tuesday in a second and final vote. The vote was unanimous.
