A woman who suffered severe head injuries after being struck by a vehicle while walking her dog in South San Francisco on Tuesday evening is expected to survive her injuries, Sgt. Joni Lee said today.
Witness reports stated the woman was walking her dog when a silver, four-door sedan struck her and her pet in the intersection of Alida Way and Country Club Drive around 4:50 p.m. Tuesday, according to police.
The woman was thrown to the ground and her dog was run over and killed, police said.
The driver fled westbound on Country Club Drive towards the residential area of Avalon Drive immediately after the collision, according to a witness. The driver is described as a Filipino woman in her 50s or 60s with shoulder-length hair, police said.
Two vehicles, a blue van and a pickup truck, appeared to have followed the sedan after the incident occurred, according to police.
The woman was transported to a local trauma center and is suffering brain hemorrhaging, although she is expected to survive her injuries, Lee said.
No one has admitted to the incident, Lee said.
Anyone with information, as well as the drivers of the vehicles that chased the suspect, are encouraged to contact the South San Francisco Police Department Traffic Unit at (650) 877-8900.
