South City man killed in Fairfield crash

The victim in Saturday's fatal solo-vehicle crash on westbound Interstate Highway 80 in Fairfield was a 32-year-old South San Francisco man, Fairfield police said.

His identity has not been released pending notification of family members.

A 16-year-old male passenger was also taken to the Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Vallejo, but police said his injuries did not appear to be life threatening.

At about 10:30 p.m. Saturday, the California Highway Patrol and Fairfield police responded to a solo-vehicle crash on westbound I-80 under the Suisun Valley Road overpass, according to police.

A 2008 BMW Coupe was apparently coming onto the highway from Suisun Valley Road when it drove down an embankment and ended up on westbound I-80, Fairfield police said.

The car rolled several times before coming to rest in the center divide, according to officials.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation, but police said speed and alcohol appear to be contributing factors.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call Fairfield police at (707) 428-7300.
