Shoplifters pepper spray Safeway security guard

A Safeway security guard was pepper sprayed by two shoplifters in the Western Addition on Wednesday, police said.

The 35-year-old male victim attempted to stop two women who reportedly shoplifted some items at the store at Eddy and Webster streets about 10:30 p.m. when one of the suspects pepper-sprayed him.

The suspects fled the scene on foot with the stolen goods. No arrests have been made.

The security guard was treated at the scene by a medic.
