SFPUC: ‘No evidence’ of water quality issues despite Sunset District social media scare

The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission is testing water quality in the Sunset District after a resident posted a warning on social media over the weekend alleging that a home test had found traces of pesticides.

The resident posted on Next Door that they had used a home testing kit after noticing their water had an “odd taste,” and “the results came back positive for pesticides.”

While the social media post claimed that SFPUC officials had confirmed the presence of pesticides, the agency said it has not yet completed testing in the area.

“At this time, the SFPUC has no evidence of any water quality issues with the City’s drinking water,” SFPUC spokesman Will Reisman said. “However, we take all water quality concerns seriously and we will do everything we can to get to the bottom of these concerns.”

Reisman said an agency team was meeting with the resident Tuesday afternoon to get more information about the testing kit and water source tested and perform their own water quality tests.

Crews will also be testing other sites around the neighborhood, with results expected early next week.

Residents are being asked to report all water quality issues to 311.
