A San Francisco woman was arrested Monday in connection with a residential burglary in which a pit bull was taken along with other items, Officer Grace Gatpandan said in a statement Tuesday.
Melissa Perna, 31, was booked for felony burglary, felony possession of stolen property, two misdemeanor narcotics charges and three local traffic warrants in connection with a burglary that occurred last weekend in South of Market.
According to earlier media reports, the pit bull, named Mochi, was taken along with several of the victim’s belongings while the victim was asleep in his residence.
The victim, David Baker, spoke to several media outlets about the incident and took to social media in an attempt to find the dog. Billie Joe Armstrong, from the Bay Area band Green Day, even got into the act by posting a picture on his Instagram account to his 433,000 followers.
According to police, Perna was spotted by someone who recognized the dog in the area of Sixth and Stevenson streets. The witness reportedly followed Perna to the 300 block of Eddy Street where she was arrested.
Baker posted a picture of he and Mochi being reunited to his Instagram account and said he was grateful for all the help.
