San Francisco receives more complaints about their cops than pretty much every city in the nation that has police oversight.
The National Association for Civilian Oversight of Law Enforcement wrote a review of the four largest police civilian oversight boards in the country, and New York City — which has more than 40,000 cops — received only 50 complaints of abuse more than San Francisco, which has about 2,000 officers.
“In 2008, the four largest community-police mediation programs in the United States were New York City’s Civilian Complaint Review Board with 112 mediations, San Francisco’s Office of Citizen Complaints (OCC) with 71 mediations, Denver’s Office of the Independent Monitor with 43 mediations, and Washington, D.C.’s Office of Police Complaints with 36 mediations,” the report said.
And while it still has a case backlog, the OCC is making strides to catch up to all the complaints.
