SF man fatally shot at night in Bayview-Hunters Point

A 23-year-old man was shot and killed in Bayview-Hunters Point on Tuesday night, according to police.

Matthew Higginbotham, of San Francisco, was shot with a handgun at around 10:51 p.m. on Kirkwood Avenue between Dormitory Road and Earl Street, authorities said. Higginbotham was rushed to the hospital and pronounced dead.

Police did not release a detailed description of the man suspected in the shooting.

The shooting came the night after a double shooting in the Mission District killed 34-year-old Hubert Coleman Jr., of Richmond. The shooting happened outside a vacant store near Mission and 16th streets.

Police said the suspect in that case in unknown.

There have been 25 homicides in San Francisco so far this year.
