Security guard stabbed at Union Square

A security guard at Union Square park was injured in a stabbing on Tuesday, police said.

The 32-year-old victim was patrolling the park about 3:45 a.m. and he noticed a man who appeared to be in his 20s and asked him to leave the park because it was closed.

The man refused and punched the security guard in his side while holding a pocket knife, police said. The man then fled.

The guard noticed that he had a laceration on his arm where the man had punched him. The injury was minor and the victim refused transport to the hospital.
