The search continues for a baby girl apparently kidnapped from the back of a car in the Mission district Sunday while her father was in a smoking-paraphernalia store on the corner.
San Francisco police Officer Maria Oropeza said Monday that Camille Ferguson’s father had parked his silver, 2002 Cadillac on 18th Street at Mission Street while he went to City Smoke and Gifts at the corner of 18th and Mission streets about 7:45 p.m., leaving his 5-month-old daughter in the front passenger seat. When he returned to the car, she said, the father realized she was missing.
The man immediately returned to the store and asked to call 911, Oropeza said. Police responded minutes later.
Camille was wearing a pink, flowery outfit when she went missing, Oropeza said Monday. The Web site for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children gives her height as 1 foot and her weight as 16 pounds.
Oropeza said the department has several officers committed to the search and that the child’s family is cooperating with police. “The mother and father are in a dating relationship at this time,” she said.
