Running cleaner trash pickups

This hybrid trash truck endured three days of grueling test runs, driving up and down San Francisco’s hilly terrain to collect garbage.

Recology, the company that collects refuse and recycling in The City, was testing the vehicle, which uses approximately 30 percent less fuel than standard trucks because it culls stored energy from braking and other hydraulic functions.

The truck runs on several types of alternative fuel, including liquefied natural gas.

Though the truck passed the field test by the company, it will not be available for purchase from the company for at least another year.
