Redwood City names new fire chief

Redwood City officials will swear in James Skinner as the city's new fire chief Friday.

Skinner has been the interim fire chief for the last nine months, and will fill the vacancy left by the departure of former Chief Gerry Kohlmann.

He has been with the Fire Department since 1982, was promoted to captain in 1990 and to battalion chief in 1998.

Skinner will be sworn in at Fire Station Nine at 755 Marshall St. at 10 a.m. Friday.
