Protesters gathered outside Salesforce’s Dreamforce conference at Moscone Center Tuesday morning to call out the company for its contract with U.S. Customs and Border Patrol.
Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff has been critical of the Trump administration’s immigration policies, and in July tweeted that “Salesforce doesn’t work with CBP regarding separation of families at the border. We don’t have an agreement with ICE.”
A coalition of groups including Fight for the Future have called out what they view as Benioff’s hypocrisy and exerted pressure on the company to drop its contract. The campaign has so far prompted the nonprofit immigrant rights group RAICES to refuse a $250,000 donation and at least one company, Wrecking Ball Coffee Roasters, to pull out of catering for Dreamforce.
“Salesforce is providing an operational base for CBP to carry out it’s border activities. And right now, as we have seen in the news, those activities include ripping families apart as they seek asylum and detaining more children than ever before,” Jelani Drew, campaigner at Fight for the Future, said in a statement. “
Dreamforce, which began today, will continue at venues including Moscone Center through Friday. The event has generated major traffic delays in the South of Market and downtown areas and long lines at nearby food and coffee venues.[Not a valid template]
